Analysis of NUS and NTU...

Hi,

Here's some analysis I made on the 2 universities that offered me a course:

NUS:

+ Prestige - NUS has been ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the world, together with Harvard, MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, Yale, Princeton and Imperial College... It is also ranked within the top 25 science universities in the world.

+ Highly vibrant campus.

+ I'll be together with many of my Ngee Ann friends. =)

+ Diverse nationalities in campus. Able to build my network around the world even before graduation.

+ Very accessible campus. Lesser travelling time if I am not given a place in the halls.

+ 3 years course with chances to file for honours of file for graduation. So if I don't do so well in the course and unable to meet the honours requirement, I can graduate earlier and get some work experience before heading for a master's degree.

- Large lecture class size. Makes me feel so unimportant.

- Little exemptions available.

NTU:

+ Prestige - Double degrees in 5 years, how many people in Singapore can boast graduating with 2 degrees? =)

+ Small class size. I'm confident that I can get good recommendations to graduate school - Being in a small program is a really easy way to get to know my professors.

+ School of Biological Sciences is the only school in Singapore that is able to boast a 100% employment of students.

+ "NTU grads going global, earning higher monthly salaries" - Heading of weekend TODAY (May 19-20).

+ Confirmed overseas exposure.

+ Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) - NTU pays me $400/month for 10 hours/week of research work. Doing some calculations, it's $10/ hour doing something I like. This research job is definitely not washing glassware.
Here's a quote I found interesting:

"Washing dishes is not a job for an undergraduate; washing dishes is a job for a dishwashing machine, okay." - Mollie, Harvard Medical School

- Little diversity in nationalities although school have a large ratio of international students - I've been in NTU for attachment for 1 year and apparently, that's the impression I have.

- Inaccessibility - Time wasted in travelling if hall places are not secured.

- I'll be alone in my course. =(

- Totally no exemptions.

That's all for now!

Bye =)
